Privacy policy for the app “WinTec Pflanzenschutz-Scan” (PSM Scan)
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
WinTec GmbH
Managing Director: Dipl.-Ing. Karlheinz Unangst
Liethweg 9, 48565 Steinfurt, Germany
Phone: +49 2552 6003902
E-Mail: karlheinz.unangst@wintec.li
Please contact this address with any questions about data protection. We have not appointed a data protection officer, as the legal requirements under Section 38 BDSG (German Federal Data Protection Act) are not met.
2. Overview
The app identifies plant protection products from a photo of the label and shows the corresponding authorisation data of the German Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL). Text recognition and matching take place entirely on the device; the authorisation data is included in the app and updated with app updates. The app does not require a user account, does not use any analytics, advertising or tracking services, and does not transmit photos, recognised text or usage data to us or to third parties.
3. Camera and images
To photograph the label, the app asks for camera permission. Alternatively, you can choose an existing photo via the operating system’s picker; the app only gets access to the selected image. Text recognition uses the on-device text recognition of Google ML Kit on Android and the operating system’s Apple Vision framework on iOS – in both cases without transmitting the image.
You grant permission via the operating system’s prompt (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) and can withdraw it there at any time. Without camera access, existing photos can still be analysed.
4. Saved scans
Only if you choose “Save scan” does the app store the scan in a database in the app’s own data directory: the label you enter (e.g. field or job), the time, the recognised lines of text, the products found with registration number and uses, and the analysed image or selected image section. Your location is not recorded. Other apps have no access to this data. Saved scans can be deleted individually in the app; the database is removed when the app is uninstalled.
5. Internet access
The app has no permission to access the internet and does not connect to our servers. Only links on the licences page open your browser – and only when you tap them; the respective website’s terms apply.
6. Distribution via app stores
The app is distributed via Google Play and the Apple App Store. The respective store operator is responsible for the data processed in that context, such as your store account and purchase and installation records: Google Ireland Limited (Google Privacy Policy) or Apple Distribution International Ltd. (Apple Privacy Policy). We do not receive any data from the stores that would allow us to identify you personally.
7. Device backup
Depending on your device settings, the data stored in the app may be included in the operating system's device backup (on Android the Google backup, on iOS iCloud or a local backup). You control this backup yourself in your device settings; we have no access to it.
8. Your rights
You have the right at any time to
- access the data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR),
- have inaccurate data rectified (Art. 16 GDPR),
- have data erased (Art. 17 GDPR) and restrict processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
- data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
- object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR) and
- withdraw any consent you have given, with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR).
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the authority responsible for us, the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (www.ldi.nrw.de).
As we do not receive any personal data from the app, saved scans are stored solely on your device. You can delete them there individually or by uninstalling the app.
Last updated: September 2026. In case of doubt, the German version prevails.
