Privacy policy for the app “WinTec FarmToTalk”
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
WinTec GmbH
Managing Director: Dipl.-Ing. Karlheinz Unangst
Liethweg 9, 48565 Steinfurt, Germany
Phone: +49 2552 6003902
E-Mail: karlheinz.unangst@wintec.li
Please contact this address with any questions about data protection. We have not appointed a data protection officer, as the legal requirements under Section 38 BDSG (German Federal Data Protection Act) are not met.
2. Overview
FarmToTalk is a field record system: you document operations on your fields by voice, photo or barcode. The app stores your records in databases on your device. We have no access to them, do not maintain user accounts and do not operate a server to which the app transfers your data. The app does not use any analytics, advertising or tracking services.
For some features, the app retrieves data from external services and transmits information such as your position for this purpose (section 5).
3. Data on your device
Stored are operations, fields and geometries, photos, notes, receipts, readings from connected sensors, the last determined position and a randomly generated installation ID that never leaves the device. The iBALIS login is stored as an access token in the device’s protected storage.
Individual entries can be deleted in the app; uninstalling the app removes all data.
4. Permissions
- Location – only while in use; to centre the map, determine the field being worked, retrieve weather and area data and assign operations to a location. The coordinates are stored with the operation record.
- Camera and photos – for photos, barcode scanning and text recognition. Barcode scanning and text recognition run on the device.
- Microphone and speech recognition – for voice input. The app uses the operating system’s speech recognition; audio may be transmitted to Google or Apple in the process.
- Bluetooth and notifications – to receive readings from connected sensors (e.g. RuuviTag, wind meter, Ecowitt) and to show an ongoing recording. The connection to an Ecowitt gateway uses the gateway’s own Wi-Fi, without internet.
You grant permissions via the operating system’s prompt (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) and can withdraw them there at any time; some features will then no longer be available.
5. External services
Requests are only made when you use the feature concerned. Each provider technically receives your IP address, and beyond that only the information listed here. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, as the request is necessary to provide the feature you have called up.

Some providers (e.g. Esri, Cloudflare) are based outside the European Union or process data there. Such a transfer takes place on the basis of an adequacy decision of the European Commission (for the USA: EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework) or of standard contractual clauses under Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR.
6. Export, sharing and synchronisation between devices
You can export data as PDF, Excel, JSON or a backup file and share it via the operating system’s share function or your e-mail app. Synchronisation between devices takes place directly from device to device (e.g. by file, NFC or Bluetooth), without a cloud. To activate a sensor, you can send us its device ID by e-mail; we use it only for the activation. All of this only happens on your explicit action and to the recipient you choose.
7. Distribution via app stores
The app is distributed via Google Play and the Apple App Store. The respective store operator is responsible for the data processed in that context, such as your store account and purchase and installation records: Google Ireland Limited (Google Privacy Policy) or Apple Distribution International Ltd. (Apple Privacy Policy). We do not receive any data from the stores that would allow us to identify you personally.
8. Device backup
Depending on your device settings, the data stored in the app may be included in the operating system's device backup (on Android the Google backup, on iOS iCloud or a local backup). You control this backup yourself in your device settings; we have no access to it.
9. Your rights
You have the right at any time to
- access the data we hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR),
- have inaccurate data rectified (Art. 16 GDPR),
- have data erased (Art. 17 GDPR) and restrict processing (Art. 18 GDPR),
- data portability (Art. 20 GDPR),
- object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21 GDPR) and
- withdraw any consent you have given, with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR).
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the authority responsible for us, the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (www.ldi.nrw.de).
As your records are stored solely on your device, you can view, change and delete them there yourself.
